# Can using a VPN get you banned from online games?

**Using a VPN for privacy or a more stable connection does not usually get you banned.** The risk comes from using a VPN to break a game's rules, such as changing region to get cheaper in-game purchases, easier matchmaking, region-locked content, or to get around an existing ban. Many games prohibit this in their terms of service.

## How to stay safe

- Read the terms of service for the games you play.

- Connect to a server in your own region when you play.

- Do not use any VPN to get around a ban or region restrictions.

The [GamingVPN Terms of Service](https://www.gamingvpn.tech/tos/) also prohibit using the service to break the rules of any game or platform.
