Sometimes. A VPN adds an extra stop between your device and the game server, so on a good connection it usually adds a few milliseconds of ping. It can lower ping or smooth out lag spikes when your internet provider routes game traffic poorly, slows (throttles) gaming traffic, or your local network is congested. The only way to know is to test it on your own connection.
How to get the lowest ping with GamingVPN
- Connect to the server closest to you, or closest to the game’s servers.
- Compare your in-game ping with the VPN on and off.
- Use 5 GHz Wi-Fi or a strong cellular signal, and pause large downloads while you play.
- If one server feels slow, switch to another. You can change locations any time.
What a VPN cannot fix
A VPN cannot make a weak Wi-Fi signal stronger or speed up a slow internet plan. It also cannot change how far you physically are from the game’s servers.
